Talk to Your Doctor

Talk to your doctor or healthcare professional about your travel plans before you travel to your destination. He or she should be your primary resource for health information.

Getting the most out of your pretrip doctor's visit means being prepared. Review this checklist to make sure you get all the information you'll need to stay healthy and safe during your travels.

Information to take with you when you visit
your doctor:

A printout of your "Are You at Risk?" results
 Anticipated length of stay
Where you will be staying (city/country, hotel/outdoors, etc.)
Types of activities that you will be engaging in
 Vaccination history
 Names of current medications
 List of allergies

Questions to ask your doctor or nurse:

Will my destination or planned activities put me at risk of contracting any diseases?
Will I need any special medications or vaccinations for my trip?
What is the correct dosing schedule and routine for taking the necessary medications?
Can you provide a copy of my current prescriptions? (Many countries require proof of your prescription.)

If you don't have everything, try to bring what you can.
